Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been on aquariacentral for years. In the somewhat near future, I want to purchase a large tank, at least 200 gallons. I want to include as many species as possible in the smallest tank possible. I would like it to include South American species, and I would like to include the following:

Arrowana
Oscar
Jack Dempsey
Black Ghost Knife
Red Terror
Red Devil
Blood Parrot
Firemouth
Pacu
Silver Dollars
Pleco
Shovelnose or Pictus or Redtail or other catfish (I realize a Redtail is probably not the best idea)

I know that I really want an Oscar and a Jack Dempsey, but are the other fish compatible? How big of a tank would I need?

the 200 will be too small for the aro, pacu, and catfish considering all the other fish you want. just the cichlids alone might work, but it depends on individual personalities of the fish, especially the red devil

and to get a BGK to live in there it would have to be substantill in size.

In my opinion the 300 would be more than enough. Pacus get too big. I just traded mine in yesterday. They grow rediculously fast. I would scratch the ghost knife too. They just aren't very hardy compared to some of the others in the tank. The red devil would need to be scratched as well. They are just too aggressive once they get older. You could probably throw in another couple of oscars though. i would make sure that you dont' get a monster cat either. I'm from the bayou and we use to see some monster catfish. Maybe a synodontis would work, but the arrow may eat him if he gets too big. I think a clown knife would work in that size of tank. Clowns stay at the bottom of the tank, so that should work out good for you. Just my opinion. GL with the planning.

How does this sound?

300 gal
1. Oscar
2. Green Terror
3. Silver Arowana
4. Jack Dempsey
5. Red Terror
6. Severum
7. Firemouth
8. Jaguar Cichlid
9. Spotted Shovelnose or Common Pleco

How many of each fish could I have? Is that too much?

It would have to be a very very large tank. I'm thinking at least 8 feet long, probably a 300 gallon wide. Don't get a shovel nose they'll eat whatever fits in their mouth and most get huge. Also plecos chew through acrylic so don't get one unless you go glass. The red terror will get pretty big along with the jag and one of them might kill the other. Either way good luck!
