Someone should test this hypothesis by having a tank that's on the ground, still feed it floating pellets only, this also ensures that the Aro will 'look up' when it sees someone. ??? RIght??

The fish will always be on the lookout for food. If nothing is up, he'll look down.

I think its from head trauma myself...at least in some cases, maybe not all. I got my black at 20" and I've yet to see him jump or try to jump. I watched my small silver go half way down the tank one day and then shoot to the top like a rocket...with a thump on the glass top to go with it. And now he looks like he's slowly developing DE.

I've heard floating ping pong balls on the top of the water gives them something to look at because they move around a lot.

i doubt it would be a remedy for DE.

if any of my aros start looking like DE is developing, I put them in my pond for a month or 6 weeks and theyre right again- everytime
I dont know about really bad cases, because I havent let it go that far- but the early stages are repairable

and they at times, have gone without feeders at all between instances, so thats not the case
fishing bobbers and ping pong balls have never had any affect, they dont even notice them

Interesting. I recently added an FX5 to my 120g grow out and my small silver has now stopped pretending its a rocket ship. In fact the flow is so great it doesn't stay up top much, usually just to eat. It hangs out about a 1/4 of the way down now. I wonder if this will benefit him?
