First Blood of the year.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats on the buck!!!!! Our season opened yesterday and I was fortunate enough to take a nice doe. Gotta love hunting season!

Would have let him walk personally, but thats probably why I havnt dropped anything in a few years.

I dont bowhunt though, I suck too bad to limit my range and with three months of modern gun season in the state I hunt, no need to take advantage of the early bow season.

Im not going to hunt with a "traditional" rifle this year though. Going to use some AK clones. :)

Here is a buck I let walk last year, hope to see him this year!!

Buckeye it all comes down to preference. Thanks Jonesmat its good to get one down early. Jd7.62 i have 12 tags......6 either sex and 6 doe tags that i can use all with the bow or i can use them during gun season. I usually go threw 6-7deer a year so unless its a small deer it doesnt get a free pass. Plus i dont have to buy any beef this way and it saves me money.

Nice kill, just about to sell my bow actually your making me reconsider.

I was just kidding. Your bow is set up real nice. Everyone has that particular brand they like and in my hunting group we all tease each other. My dad and I shoot Bowtechs. My uncle shoots a Mathews, my other uncle shoots a Hoyt, and my grandpa shoots a Horton Crossbow.

Im a PSE man myself...hard to beat those specs at the price they ask.

Heres the opener for me.

Got in the woods...no blind...no stand...(this is in my backyard).

Sit down in some little pines. I have a doe come over the ridge behind me (downwind)...Im scent blocked pretty well, but she kinda sees me, and after a little while of fretful eating, she leaves.

So I move into a gun blind on top of the ridge ( I dont gun hunt).

I have never shot from this blind, and dont know the range.

Sure enough, I see two deer (Momma and baby I assume) walkin down the trail. As the momma is about to enter the shooting lane, I stand, draw, and aim...AT A SIX POINT BUCK!

Now this isnt big for around here, but its the opener...do I take this deer?

I say yes because I compete with way too many neighbors to know that I will ever see him again, figure he was at 25...and he was at 34. Just barely missed low. Havent seen anything since. Hoping to get out this weekend.

First time I have ever missed a live target with my PSE... :(

Damn your not the only one. Two of my friends already missed a few i think a totally of 4 misses. It happens and just becomes another hunting story. Don't give up and i would of shot at him to if i was in your shoes.

As a motorcyclist, I personally thank you for keeping that stilted tree rat from killing me. Enjoy your meat and may your arrows fly true and straight for the rest of the season.

I just saw that you are from RI.... Neighbor, I now owe you a piece of pie. There is a bounty on all RI/CT deer. This was decided by the motorcycle group I belong to. We pay in pie for the eradication of these threats to our survival.

Apple, blue berry, bumble berry or peach?
