I still admire them for attempting to keep the whale sharks. They are a really great aquarium and should not be harrassed for losing a fish that almost no other aquarium has tried (not that anyone is harrassing lol). I heard rumors of them attempting a Great White if the Whales were sucsessful, Zoodiver, can you confirm, (deny) this?

I read somewhere that any attempts to keep a great white would have similar results as far as being unsuccessful because of their migratory habits. I think I read that some aquarium had tried but the shark died. Maybe not. Zoodiver any thoughts on this?

Monterey Bay aquarium has had young great whites on and off exhibit for the past few years. They don't have one on exhibit right now though. They keep them for a while and then release them back into the ocean to track their migration. As far as their condition in captivity, Zoodiver or Water_baby would know better than me but I have heard that at least in the beginning they didn't do very well. Unfortunately with great whites and whale sharks, like many other animals, keeping them in captivity is a trial and error learning process.

Yeah, thats what I had heard as well, the migratory thing, but I thought some aquarium actually had relative sucses but released the animal back into the wild. I don't know, we really need Zoodiver for this one lol.

GA will not be keeping white sharks (that I know of). Their tropical temps in the OV tank would not fit one well. Also, it has the same issues MBA would have.... flat edges and other fish that could pick on a younger shark. I think GA will continue along the 'gentle giants' idea they've got going for the 'highlight' animals in the OV display. I think the Manta's was a great move on their part. I would like to see the massive school of cownose rays come back, though.

So the first poster meant to say atlanta Ga aquarim? or the atlantis aquarium in the bahamas? i also think the japan aquarium has manta rays and whale sharks. there was an awesome tv show that showed how they built the new improved larger aquarium and showed how they made the thick acrylic window panes. i think it was called like mega builds or something on nat geo tv.

Yeah, GA Aquarium did a big press release about adding the Manta's to the OV tank.
However, the aquarium at Atlantis has had Manta's in the past as well.
