First Cichlids

I would take stocklist one, but lose the oscar and firemouth and add more convicts. If you do add more convicts make sure they are all male cause otherwise the breeding never stops. Dempseys and Green Terrors can be kept with a Texas, I even keep them with a Midas without problems in a 190 gallon.

I've heard that convicts just *loove* to breed, but they'd be sharing the tank with many hungry feesh... so wouldn't that solve that issue? :x

After I learned that oscars are actually quite intelligent I've wanted one for myself. Maybe not dog/parrot level intelligence, but a large, smart fish would be interesting. Heard their behavior is very dog-like in that they'll focus on you and what you're doing and are willing to learn tricks for a food reward.

Proposed future stocklist for a 180 gallon tank:

1 x Oscar
1 x Firemouth Cichlid
1 x Convict Cichlid
1 x Texas Cichlid
1 x Jack Dempsey
1 x Green Terror
1 x Pike Cichlid
1 x Common Pleco

-or-

2 x Oscar
1 x Texas Cichlid
4 x Convict Cichlids
1 x Common Pleco

I'm not a big fan of oscars, so I would have chosen #1 and substituted a convict for the oscar . . . I'd also recommend getting all males, or at least not getting a female convict, since they truly will breed with anything

I might also leave out the GT and pike and just maintain an all CA tank . . . GTs and JDs have not gone well together IME . . .
