congratz brothaaa

when i was like 6 i had like 5 convicts in a 5 gallon the breeding pair killed most of them lol i also killed all the fry when i changed the water

thanks, but should i worry about the male killing the female? i remember that was the worry with africans if they werent' paired 3 girls: 1 guy (exactly how it should be) but this male is chasing the female around pretty often... should i move the female out till she's ready (or male out)? when will that be?
OR should everything be fine?

That's really cool. It's always exciting when your fish breed. Convicts were the first fish I ever got to breed. Then I moved to african cichlids, pike cichlids, and now I'm going to have a go at marine fish breeding. As for your later questions.... You can pretty much expect convicts to be super aggressive from now on now that they have paired up and are breeding. Separating them into their own tank is your best bet. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, it was extra exciting because i hadn't realized they were mature do to their tiny size...

:ROFL: My dad did you one up, he had 8 dempsey's in a ten gallon!!! obviously they tore everything up that went into that tank (feeders) yet somehow they let eachother survive for the most part.... weird. especially after he had a pair breed by accident.
OBVIOUSLY he had no clue about anything fish related... That had to be so cruel to those fish living in such small quarters

congrats, i just set up a 20 with a breeding pair too. expecting any day now. are you breeding yours as food or what do you plan for the fry?

Mine have been fine with the fry for about a month then I move the babies out and the parents breed again shortly. Haven't seen much agression but I think my two parents are pretty shy they both came from a LFS as a pair and I don't think they have ever been in a tank with other fish.

My cons also just spawned (1st timer here), so I stumbled upon this thread while doing a search. They spawned about a month ago (maybe 3 weeks?), but they ate all of the eggs. I currently have them in a 28-gallon, & seperated the fry as soon as they became free-swimmers.

My question is how long do I wait before I start feeding the fry? I read above someone recommended brine shrimp (I assume live babies), but I don't have any. Would crushed flakes or .8mm NLS pellets be good?
