First Crayfish!

Middle of No Where
Got this guy from my local canal. can anyone tell me what species or what sex.. i would like to try to breed a par but first gotta know which is which. He is eating well on feeders and algae pellets.. any other food suggestions?

It looks like a P. acutus based on the color, shell texture and blue inner arms on the claws. But to ID correctly, you'd need to post a good claw picture, a picture of the top (looking down on the cray) to look at the head and areola, and if it's a male, a picture of the gonopods will definitely give you a correct ID.

As for food, it's different from species to species, some prefer more meat based diets others more vegetable based. It's kind of trial and error. Try different things, veggies, fish, shrimp (always cooked, never raw... that can kill your cray), etc. You'll see what it likes based on that.

Yeah claws are confusing because they are small like a female alleni, but better pics would help, could be actus but still can't bee 100%
