First day as an arowana owner....

Perhaps a little confusion. Isn't it early spring in South america right now? Which would make a wild caught aro very young indeed.
 
Well it isn't looking good for this guy so far unfortunately. He made it through the night but spends most of the time laying down sideways on the bottom of the tank. The tank is bare, unlighted, and heated with an airstone. I also decided to add a little primafix in hopes that it might lower his stress levels. Not sure if he will pull through this. What a discouragement!

don't give up mate.. did you put anythin in for him to feed? fingers crossed he pulls through this.. take care.
 
I hope he pulls through I had my first silver commit suicide by jumping out of the tank.....sad day, but I got another and its doing good but if yours doesn't pull through I would recommend getting one that's bigger than 3 inches there definitely hardier the bigger they are. good luck
 
Unfortunately it did not pull through. I sure feel like an idiot and a jerk for being the cause of its demise, IMO.

I am in the market for a new one, and plan on starting this one out solo in a 20 gallon for the first few months at least, so he can get some decent size/strength on him. If I do move him to a larger tank, I will make sure to turn off any power-heads/air-circulation or strong filters I have until he is at a formidable size...

Amazon is on the equator, basically there are only two seasons, wet and dry. It is beginning of the wet season now. It'll be 5-6 months before arowana will be spawning.

Well I got a new Arowana, so back to the drawing board for me. This one is being raised in a 20-gallon long tank for the next couple of months so that he can gain some size/strength for the large 300 gallon tank he will be housed in once larger. Here is a picture. Thus far he has only accepted blood worms (frozen) and live black-worms as food. Ive tried pellets twice. On the first try he paid them no attention and left them to rot. On the second attempt, he quickly gobbled one, then spit it out immediately. I suppose some 'training' may be in order here eventually.
