 I lost one of my female guppies today. I was so upset, my mom told me it is hard to raise fish but I can not help woundering if I did anything wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I need to do a water change, I have not done one in a week. But I thought that water change is a weekly thing but maybe I need to do it more than once since I have not got my new tank and my tank may have to many fish right now. Now I just hope the rest of them live because if they all die then I do not think that I can manage to try more guppies and will have to look at some other kind of fish.
thanks

It's hard to lose your first fish.. :(
Sorry for your loss.

Do you live in Arizona or Arkansas BD? Cuz if you live in Arkansas there is gonna be a aquarium meetin in Memphis you should go to. Get to meet more people who keep fish, help you with any problems you have and stuff. I'm gonna be going when they get it all figured out...;).

Fish keeping has its challenges. It can be hard, but for the most part its learn as you go. We all have made mistakes, ALL have lost fish, all have been discouraged. Its up to you if you give up or keep on going. If a lot of us gave up when we lost a fish, many of us wouldn't still be keeping fish. Its part of the hobby, and a lot of the time its out of our hands if the fish die. Just do your best, you'll get better...I promise!

Yeah I am from Arkansas, I would love to go to the meeting but I am low on money. I will not rule it out though. I do not want to stop keeping fish, I just mean if all 10 of my guppies die then maybe I need to try a different fish. I did a gallon change today and will do more tommorw because I have to go across the street to my friends house to get tap water and he was not there so tommorw I can have him help me get more. I hope that helps.

Don't sweat it, it won't be for a few more weeks, I'll let you know when they get things figured out.

Why do you have to go across the street to get tap water? Use your regular tap water, that way your fish will be acclimated to it, so if you need to do a water change they won't be shocked by the water parameters. Probably doesn't do any good except waste time anyway going over to the other house because you should all be on the same water system, unless he has RO water...then it would be worth it...;)

I have well water that is to acidic. I can not even drink it because it gave me an ulcer. So I have to walk or drive lol across the street to get his tap. Where I live they are not adding people into water system because water levels were low last year.

Too acidic? Whats the pH of the water? The lower pH would be better for your fish, as long as you stay away from Africans....;). You can get a cheap test strip kit at Walmart that you can use to test your water parameters...;)

As long as the pH isn't below 6.0 you should be alright. If your pH was lower than that you could still keep fish, but you would have to acclimate them very well first...haha

Yeah i understand what its like having lost 4 half black angels this week...OOPS

The important thing to do is learn from your mistakes...thats what im doing

I wish there were aquarium clubs in Adelaide...i cant find any!

Sory for your loss Bethie, That always sucks. even if they all do die (let's hope not) you can't give up. This hobby is great, stick to it. remember that the bigger tanks are actually easier. so keep that in mind. your tank being small, you need to keep a close eye on the params, keep up on changes, & be sure not to over feed.

We are all here for you :o) :) :D

I am not sure what ph of the water is or what acidic means. My mom had fish and could never get them to live and she tried everything, she sent our water in the be tested and they told her that it was to acidy and that was why we all had stomach problems and mom figured that was why the fish always died.
Sorry about your 4 fish, it is so hard to see them die.
