Justepic Justepic , take a look at the video from Ted Judy Ted's Fishroom Racking on different style racks and his method for using dado cuts to make a multiple tier rack. I've used this method for three 36" long x 18" wide tanks and it works great. You will need to figure out the spacing YOU need above the tank and don't forget light fixture height and ease to reach into the aquarium for maintenance.

Dado stacks are illegal in Europe

The thing is, I have enough overhead space. I just don't want the top tank to be too tall as then it will be hard to maintain, like what happened to ur tank.

My question do I have to put in the 2*4 supports that Joey puts at the end of the vid to stop having all the weight supported by the screws? If I don't need to, I can lower the height of the entire stand.

An extra inch or two between tanks it so nice to have.

Working in gaps is way crappier than working on a step stool.

My hindsight moments here are, not being able to open my 40b lid past about 45 degrees, all my Aquaclear HOB "baskets" have to flex a bit to be taken out of their filters, and its always a mess on top of the glass on in the tank when it filter maintenance time. A folding step stool stores easily in a 1in wide gap behind the tank for convenience.

I don't understand what that has to do with making cuts in wood as in my linked video? You can use a table saw or a reciprocating saw and make multiple cuts and a wood chisel to remove unnecessary wood.

I did just check and saw that dado blades are illegal for table saw use.
