FIRST EGG LAYING DISCUSS INFO NEEDED!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats.
im just curious how long they can feed off their parents before needing the next “size up” for food and what that would be. Im thinking parents->baby brine-> brine-> blood worms?
Yes baby brine shrimp and/or microworms. Put some in when they are free swimming.

Congratulations! Soon you will have a lot of small fish! I hope no one will eat your little fish, I always had a problem in my aquarium that the fish just ate each other.

Well so that was their first lay, and I left plecos and a gourami in there and between lights out and sun up they were cleaned out so I think it was a pleco. I removed them the gourami and a couple discus to lighten the load. Just waiting for the next spawn it’s been about a week exactly since the eggs were eaten. They lasted about 3 days. U think they’ll spawn again soon??

Just curious in your opinion n not to be a pest, it’s been about 10 days since the first spawn and I haven’t seen any new eggs yet. Got me very excited, do u think it’s just a matter of time until they do it again? I’m leaving them where they are and trying to feed more nutritious foods, got some live BWs for example as a treat. The female was a brand new fish added she’s only about 4” the male more like 6+ so maybe she’s gotta “recharge”? They still guard and peck at the mangrove wood.. just yea I feel like a gambling addict waiting for the jackpot to hit hahah I appreciate your opinion when it comes to this stuff cuz when I read online I see things like they lay every 4-5 days or every week but they’re still acting like a pair so yea.. it’s got me obsessing u could say lol just tryna let things happen. Thank you ??

Lol sounds like something a pair of Convict Cichlid. Everyone has different experience so just keep your routine the same feeding, and how you maintain the aquarium. If the pair are guarding and keeping that area clean that's a good sign. Hopefully they will spawn again soon.

So they layed again! I’m very relieved. I’m confident in their bond, and this round I’ll leave them with a few other discus in the big tank. Maybe it’ll strengthen their bond before moving them into a breeding tank for next time. Appreciate all your wisdom, as well as everyone else who chimed in! So here’s a picture collage thing my mom made out of the pictures, you can see the female with the eggs but the father is not in any of these pictures. Thank you all!
