Not really true. I have a bunch of hiding spots for my bichirs but I can still see all of them all the time. They're always out and about especially when they're hungry. The only bichir that hid most of the time was my second ornate. It hid most of the day time when it was under 8" but now that it is bigger it's out all the time. Also the trick is to have the hiding spot situated in such a way that the bichir can feel safe and hide under them but you can actually still see them. I use african driftwood, a few flower pots, and fake plants as hiding spots and tank deco.

I also have hiding spots for my Ornate, but it is out often.

My little guy doesn't prefer to hide. He swims around all the time, sometimes stopping where he can't be seen, but he stays out of the caves and such I made for my eels. He isn't taking pellets very well yet, but I have freshly molted meal worms that he is enjoying. I've never really seen a fish chew their food like a bichir. Kinda looks like he is playing with it. So far so good. And as for the current... he posts up on the rock in front of my jet all the time. It's definitely a cool fish.

I'll get some good pics soon. I just cleaned and rearranged my tank yesterday. When the water clears and I get film I will snap a roll with my 35mm. My digital has way to much lag for fish pictures... shutter speed sucks, and too much flash exposure, and it washes out their colors usually.

see all beblondies threads and you will learn alot!:D
