ok this is my first frontosa. i dont noe if its male or female, and i got im for 8 bucks. wat u guys think? any tips?right now its in a 10g by itself. wat can i put in with it? also can i put in a 240g with arows, bichirs, oscars, and other large cichlids? also wats its growth rate?

They are colony fish, best kept in groups of 12. At least that's what I prefer.
They need large tanks, once they mature they easily reach 14"+ even in aquarium environments.
They are carnivorous, but that doesn't mean they will take the diet of the arowanas and since my guess is that you keep your arowana (silver or black I hope ) at a softer level ...that tank is not suited for Frontosas, by the way, they look like Burundis. Frontosas are Tanganyikans = higher pH, harder water needed.

Yes you can mix it with the above fish... Once it reaches 6-8"..

You can keep it in the 10g but pls add some rocks..and they grow real slow... Within a year it should reach about 4-5"

And its too small to be sexed...

I would get him some buddies and keep them in a 75 gallon grow out tank till they reach 6 to 7 inches then you can try to put them in the bigger tank but keep in mind they are not aggressive to other species of fish. (but they can be to each other) They are rather wimpy actually and might not thrive in with such large predatory fish as tankmates. They do grow very slow. Get him some rocks or something to use as a cave, he looks very unhappy by himself with no cover. You can even use a coffee cup or bowl for a cave until you can find something better. I would not plan on keeping him for long in the ten gallon since its tiny tank and he will need some front buddies if you are expecting him to thrive or act like a normal front. You cant put a bunch of front juvies to grow out in a ten gallon. Get a bigger grow out tank or re home him. Not being mean or anything, just honest.

I have a totally of 12 and they grow pretty slow but mine where house in a 55 then 75 and now housed in 125. (5) of them are around 5-6in soon to be housed in a 300gal when the time comes. As having one I would pick up more then one, as they said better house with groups then single. Hope this helps
