Out of curiosity, what prior experience do you have with keeping and handling hots, lp?
I sadly do not have a ton but I do have some. Im still practicing when I can.
I have not kept any yet :(.

Lp has taken a class regarding the care and handling of venomous and has worked with me briefly and done his research. Not ideal but not the worst either. I really recommend that anyone wanting venomous snakes gets lots of hands on experience with the species they are wanting first. I went through 2 years of training before I received my permit. Just something for everyone to think about.
 
CroFab is so expensive because it's really the only antivenin that many doctors in the U.S. will use for native crotalid bites and therefore pretty much rules the market. Other legitimate antivenin can be had for far less, but you'll need a prescription and a doctor that's willing to administer it should it ever be needed since many are not FDA approved despite being approved in many other countries.
