First Jardini, any tips?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had trouble feeding mines when they were young. They went 3 days without eating anything I gave them. They wouldn't even eat baby crickets, they'd bite it and chew him but eventually let him drown and die.

I lucked out when one of them took a big bite out of a chunk of frozen bloodworms. :headbang2 He continued to take it, and the others started following.

I would say, try everything you can. Its better to spend about 20 bucks on a variety of food to try out than to lose your 100 fish. LOL

thats a bit exspensive for a 2'' fry.

but if it still has its yolk sack, then you dont have to do anything.

do what other say and try a variety of food.

$100 for a 2''er?

Good luck with it. Ive got a 3-4 incher that i got @ 2 inches for $40, so take care of that thing!

PS: regarding diet, I asked the LFS i purchased him from what he ate and the dude said "we havent fed him yet, but feed him FD krill", so they must have just gotten it in when i snagged it. I tried starting with small pieces of FD krill with no luck so i switched so the live black worms (make sure you have a trustable supplier or i wouldnt even try it) that i was feeding my eel and knife, transitioned it from those to frozen bloodworms, then onto the krill and even takes pellets, all within a month. IMO its all about the right transitions for picky fish.

Agree with Hungryfish, try everything you can. The LFS fed my juvie jar frozen bloodworms, but it took FD prawns and FD bloodworms a few hours after I got it home. A few days later, tried arowana pellets and it took that as well. It still even tries to eat the flake food I put in the tank for it's Tiger Barb tankmates! Good luck!

All the BEst.

Continue with the same food that the lfs was giving and then slowly change his diet as you feel necessary.

Thanks everybody for their reply.
Gshock: I was looking for peoples experiences not confirmed data, i have read tons of articles about Jardinis in the last couple of weeks.

It is now eating shrimps, man these little things have a huge appetite, it is 2-3", $100 seems fair, i am in Iceland. I will post a thread in the media lounge as soon as i get pics.

Iceland is a long way from home for a jar. No wonder its a 100 bucks. Thats a lot of gas.

Id grow him up in the 29, then grow him up in the 100 and find a larger tank. You will need something bigger then 100 gallons in a years time.
