First marine tank

it'll probably work, make sure you read up a ton...there's the pro.

the con---
20 gallons is too small for a first marine tank. I don't recommend anyone start under 30 gallons, and even then i really suggest a 55.
koralias are awesome powerheads, however the magnets and clamps have a tendancy to wear down and can sometimes blow sand and stuff all over your aquarium. so i've personally strayed from them...
i don't believe that HOB skimmers do the same job as an in-sump skimmer...so i've always strayed from them.
Personally the canister filter isn't necessary either...but i'm sure you could run phosban or some other substance in there for benefit

I would have to disagree about a 20 gallon being too small for a beginner because I started my 20 gallon reef 6 months ago and it's doing great. As long as you do your research and you know what your doing you really shouldn't have any problems.

Some people might say that a protein skimmer is unnecessary for such a small tank and even though that may be true for some people, I got a 65 gallon coralife skimmer for my 20 and I'm convinced it's been my best buy yet, it keeps my water crystal clear and clean. I would strongly suggest one, especially if you plan to keep corals.

For a small tank a protein skimmer is your best investment. My 5.5 has a skimmer

Really just depends on stock and personal preference. I added a super cheap Lee's brand skimmer to mine, which doesn't do crap. I've learned that you never want to go cheap with a skimmer.

Yeah, I got a coralife super skimmer and it had some bad reviews on it but I went ahead and got it anyway, made a few modifications to it and it works great.
