ulti - delgado is a good guy, he means well, but for some reason it seems like ever since winning that tig in the raffle he has been very patronizing and condescending. Giving arrogant little one line replies too, with a pseudo wise aura :D

flow rate will not affect cycle time, whether its 4000 gph or 7000 gph, cycle time will be the same.

your filter may already be seeded, very good thing. but if you have excess bacteria in that filter, they will die off from starvation since the bioload is only a single gar, so after while the system will balance itself out and you will end up with enough bacteria to support just gars waste output.

your tank may be 750 gallons, but still, monster tanks can go through new tank syndrome also if not done with caution

by adding one fish per week (if they are a small you can go with several), you put very little stress on the nitrogen cycle (and the fish) and the bacteria just have to multiply alittle more to get thing balanced out again.

them bam! another week another fish and so on, and so on, and so on!

I don't know if you have a understanding problem, but I know how to cycle a tank so I don't need any more advice from you. The reason why I had to bring up your tig incident is because of your cocky post in post #50, " It's going to take more time than that buddy, etc." Did I ask you for cycle advise? NO. I just posted a picture of my new tank. If you want to comment on how it looks then fine, if you want to argue, then go to W.W's. Is my fish dying because of a bad cycle- no. Is my fish dying because I am ignorant and put it in with fish that would kill it? NO. Some how I don't think your fire retardent suit is working. :ROFL: Oh, that explains it. a tank is fully cycled when you have all your stock completed and the bacteria population can keep up with the waste output and keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 with no problem.

so it would be wise to add one fish per week, otherwise you would be adding more waste than the bacteria population can proccess.

you sound just like my lfs guy with the phrase "ive been keeping fish for over 20 years", just add "since before you were in diapers kid" (15% wc every other week, and tells me a new tank can be cycled with water from another tank :eek:).

and 20 years doesnt mean a damn thing.

but this is good, most novices should start with a 750 and work there way down :grinno: as they become more experienced, bigger tank= less margine for errors :grinyes:

whelp before your head gets to big I'm going throw some change in this.

hmmm i cant agree with you there, you can cycle a tank in many ways without going about it the old try and true method.

So I'm going give ya the iv been keeping fish for over 20 years as well and i have setup many tanks and had fish in them the same day by stealing bio from other tanks. weather it be gravel, water, filters, fish etc and have NEVER lost a fish so go ahead say its wrong.. sure isn't wrong to any of my fish as there still kicking and spawning for me all the time.


i also think being condescending towards members just makes ya look like a arse and sooner or later nobody is going to give a crap what your opinion is, 20 years 30 years or 1 year were always going to be still learning, when ya think your a master at your own hobby is when its going to bite ya in the azz.

How about instead of *****ing at a member about what they may or may not being doing right or wrong you just sit back and give them constructive criticism??.

I'm also going to say this. you say 20 years in this hobby means nothing? well doesn't mean a damn thing that ya got 1 post of 5000 posts doesn't make you a expert.

I have to agree with jay i don't recall seeing any ware he asked for your cycling opinion

and ya didn't ask for mine either but i really don't care. seeing you don't care about the other members here, and do not take the time to think before you type.


BUT back to jay..

I think you will be quite happy with small gravel and river rock. and maybe a nice show chunk of DW :thumbsup:
