First outdoor pond started...

Check craigslist for people removing, selling, or parting out ponds. You could get a large skimmer, one with a 8"+ weir, that can handle a pump up to 10K gals. Right now there are several adds in Chicagoland. Shipping a used skimmer might not be to bad to KY. I have seen people use totes converted into skimmers, but they look like a hack did the work. Take your time and research all DIY options.

This morning, I took my girlfriend down for a hike by the river (we have a lot of old exposed fossil beds here, and she'd never seen them before). I took the opportunity to score 5 or 6 sweet pieces of driftwood. I'll throw some pics up for you guys. Most of it will be used in tanks in the house, but two of the pieces will for sure be used in the pond. One of them is 8'8" long, and the other is 6' long. They'll look good set in the pond. I may go back over to the river and collect a few more cool ones I saw, but I could only carry so many at once.

Care to let a local in on your pickup spot for the drift wood?

Well, I should be buying the following pond stuff online on tuesday:

liners (1 20'x25' and 1 10'x12'),
pumps (2x3500gph),
and skimmer (1x3800gph capacity)

The liner is a 20 mil Polyethylene liner. Not sure if I'm gonna upgrade to 45 mil or not, the cost is so much more. I might though. Here's the 20 mil I'm looking at:

Let me know what you think about my selections. I haven't bought them yet, so I can easily change which ones I get. I'm looking at these, because I can get all of them for less that $600 shipped to my door, total. I'm trying to stay below that number if possible....
