the adontodes, yea most plecos have them and the males have the biggest.

reason why male Ancistrus develop their bushy noses:

The male Ancistrus often guard several broods of fry simultaneously. The female Ancistrus prefer to spawn with males that are already guarding a brood, possibly because these males have demonstrated that they are successful parents. It is thought the males develop their tentacles to mimic the movements and appearance of larvae and thus "trick" females into believing that the male in question is already a successful parent and therefore a good choice as a mate. the older they are the longer the bushynose, and therefore the more "sexually mature" it is
