LOL Looks good so far, also noticed you made sure to show the english side of the Glue  Nice detail

haha yeah but didn't turn it around to take another pic for french forums... there are limits after all...making 2 pics out of a glue bottle...:screwy:

SO! finally did my first coat of resin and fiberglass! by the way, am i a *** or is it really hard on the system to do it all in one shot? took me 4 hours and felt :werd:

resin wasn't supposed to smell the seller told me... yah well i'll buy a mask anywaz for the next coat!

so, sanding

some putty to fill the holes and round the intern edges ( i didn't know why, but did it anyways since i knew i was supposed to do it...know i know!)

sanding again and preparing the mat

checking that everything fits

for the whole fiberglassing part, if you ever did some, you understand why i didn't take pictures at the same time....man it's messy!

now, here's when i understood that i should have rounded better outer edges too! fiber mat is too stiff to bond to 90 degrees corners. though i sanded them, they were still quite 90 degrees.

we can see a bubble on top of the pic

still, i don't worry too much since this part will not be in touch with water. i'm taking notes for my future projects though...

after realizing that, i decided to leave some corners un-fibbered (haha is that a word?) after all, resin makes the wood waterproof, and mat makes it stiffer, right?

and a last one

I asked the guy at the boat shop if i'd need one of these roller to take out air bubbles and he told me that for the little surface i had, it would be a waste of money...man...i swore soo much trying get rid of em! another lesson to put in memory for the future!

maybe today: sanding plus acetone to get rid of potential amines, plus 2nd coat with black pigment this time.

i know, i'm a newbie, but better do a first experience on a 200 gal than on the 1000 gal!

so, what did i do wrong? what could have been better? do you guys do it all at once, or you usually fibergalss one pannel at the time (like per day or something)?

yah i saw your thread before but without noticing the discussion on fiberglass. still, i'll do just like you, sand the bubble and cut a piece of mat to fiberglass the hole. also, i read that you put several layers of resin the same day? is that right? the seller told me to wait 24h before each coat... maybe just because we're not using the same product...

i should be able to work on that today so i'll post updates!

thanks for watching!

Yep, that's right. My buddy helped my apply the fiberglass and he has been applying the stuff for years and years in the offshore oil and gas industry. He said it's better to add layers as soon as possible to reduce any contamination between the coats. It's also better to apply the next coat whilst the last coat is fresh and a little sticky for better adhesion.

The way you are doing it is also good, so long as you sandpaper the surface and thoroughly clean any dust with thinners before applying the next layer.
