Not really. There is nothing easy about moving a tank, especially a large one. Whether you are moving a sump or a canister the issue you run into is when the water stops moving, the biologicals start dying.
Well would it be possible to build the frame of the tank and screw in the plywood and just plan the plumbing at that part or would it all have to wait until plumbing is figured out?
It is best to have the entire plan on paper. But as DIY'ers know the old saying "best laid plans of mice and men". I would have a rough sketch of the plumbing on paper before you build the frame. The plumbing can be easily altered to meet your needs, but the framing can not.
so......
My advice is to Draw your tank plans, rough in the plumbing, Get started building, work out the kinks as you go.
I agree, if you look at my build you will see where I had to adjust the bracing on the back of the tank because I forgot to allow for the bukhead. Altering framing can be done, it's just not as easy as other alterationand nothing beats a good plan. Decide what you want to do and plan, plan, plan. Dont be in a rush.
Ok so heres the idea, a pipe attached to the back of the tank runs down to the stand and enters a hole. The pipe then empties into a small trash can full of filter media. The trash can is inside a bucket which is filled with other filter media. The trash can has holes drilled in the bottom so it "drips" into the bucket which has holes drilled so it "drips" into the rubbertub. Then theres a pump to pump the water back into the other set of pipes which leads out the back of stand and into tank with a trickle system
In planning the plumbing, you want to know where yourwater is going to exit and re-enter your tank and how this is going to be accomplished. Are you going to use bulkhead fittings or an overflow box w/syphon tubes? etc.
You will also want to consider where your bulkheads are going to be located within the tank. Are they going to pull water from the bottom, middle or surface of the tank. If you are going to be surface skimming, your bracing will need to be adjusted to allow for the bulkhead fitting.
Upperleft and upper right corners for intake holes. I saw a picture of an overflow box and I started thinking of instead of return through a bulkhead what If i made the return design like a fossid where the pipe hovers over the tank and just empties the water sort of mimicing a waterfall.
