Oh no you are in trouble now lol Welcome aboard and getting poly addicted ☺

Congrats on you first poly (but not your last, lol), good looking little sen.

How true, the common Sen really is the gateway Bichir

OP welcome to the club!

I agree it is an addiction. I think the big problem is that sengalus are sooooooooo great they draw you in and then you have to have atleast 1 of each.

You should also look at ropefish they are just as addictive

First bichir is very exciting, you will definitely enjoy growing him out.

I will caution you on your substrate though. they are notorious for ingesting substrate and can become impacted and unable to pass the substrate and will swell up and die.

I would guess your bichir won't be able to eat your substrate until larger, but it does look like it could be come a problem.

That substrate is also very deep, not the best of ideas generally.

Good luck with your first little poly :p

Day 1 and he's readily accepting bloodworms. Thanks for all of the advice and feedback! I'll try and keep you updated.

What sort of substrate would be better suited for bichirs?

Sand or barebottom is commonly used. I generally don't like gravel for the maintenance and how it could create extra nitrate from the stuff trapped inside
