Medway Me.
What is the best type for a beginer? I have an 150 gal with one 6 in. oscar in it. Will this be ok or will the o be killed? I have an empty 55 if this wont work. How big do thease guys get and what do they eat? Any help would be great. I know nothing about thease fish yet. lol

senegal would be my choice for first, since they are normally the cheapest and easily obtained (petsmart has them for less than 10 bucks normally). I would be afraid of the oscar looking at a juvi senegal as a nice snack, more than the bichir going after the O.

senegal or an ornate. If you go with the senegal your oscar should be safe, but like dysfuntional said, if the poly is small the O might mistake for a wormy treat. Maybe grow the poly out for a bit in the 55 (which from what I've read would house a senegal for life) and then once it fattens up introduce it to your 150. With the ornate, it might be a little snappy towards the oscar at first, but should settle down. When I got my ornate it would try to bite all the fish in the tank, but after a week it just ignores them all now.

I got my 14" ornate cheaper from my LFS ($42 tax included) than what the Petsmart here charges for their 4" senegal's. Wonder why the Canadian Petsmart prices are so different than the US... They're charging 49.99$ (+tax) for baby senegals, not even albinos. I was able to get my albino senegal for $10 at around the 4" mark off someone from this board.

ya I read that stickey, all three pages! amazing job by the way that was very, very helpfull thank you Beblondie! I think I may have found another new pet! lol very cool fish. I had no idea they were so old!

I'm not really worried about the o eating the poly hes too small and not real agressive. the most skiddish o i've ever had. I think there might be a problem when poly gets bigger, but if theres a problem I can move them.
