Hello All!!!!!!!

Its nice to be here, hello! First things first, my spelling sucks; I am told I am pretty smart for an 8 year old although I am 36 :) !

I have kept fish for the last 20 years I had at one point 1200 gallons of water going in my fish room. I have sold my 220 FOWLR to a friend and I am down to one tank, a 160; but still one tank! I am traveling to much and just don't have the time anymore, even though I tell my "way" better half that "come on its not alot of work"...Anyways I pick up a 160 2 years ago and built it into the wall. Thing is, it has strange dimensions, 17icnhes wide 3 feet tall and 5 feet long, its neat because it have the 3 by 5 front panel, but it is hard to stock.

I have kept all kinds of south American and African chiclids over the years and breed most very successfully. from ali's to fronts to tropheus and calvins to oscars and Green terrors to a pair of Texas chiiclids that i kept alone in a 100 gallon that gave me so many fry i did not know what to do with them it was funny seeing the two sih in suck a big tank, with breeding pits everywhere!

Anyways back to the question at hand. I was going to to a south american tank but I gave the wife say on the tank and she said she wanted schooling fish and angels. I went with all kinds of tetras and angels. I HATE TETRAS and the angels are not far off.
Well the tank is back in my hands!!!!!

I want jurjepiri, oscars, fire mouths, green terros, Jackdempseys, although a whole African tank could be cool with rockwork up the whole back...

But i think with the big front viewing pane big fish would be great.

Lets get some stocking suggestions. I think this might be the right place.

Also I would like to keep an arowanna, but i think the tank is too tall I had a real bueaty it died when i went on vacation, when a friend was "looking" after it. I think we have all been there! any ways your ideas will be much appreciated!

Best regards,
FF

do a planted with tetras once you have a million fish in you tank you will love it guppies and snails to

With the footprint of the tank, I would avoid arowanas. You should consider some Altum angels, discus, or peruvian scalares. These would all look stunning with a 3' high tank. Don't do a planted tank with that size tank, otherwise you will need an obscene amount of light.

You're right - that IS an odd shaped tank!
Although I think it may be the perfect Discus tank - I've heard they like a lot of depth - and they'd probably end up breeding in that size of tank too!

Oh, and welcome to MFK by the way!

Thanks so far for the replies, but no discus...dont want the RO/water change hassles...that is why no salt water!

Planted tank hard with suck depth unless i put in co2 system...again not want the hassle!

keep them coming!

Well why not severums then. They are great south american cichlids. Or what about a nice Geo tank with various species. Or you could do a million Apistogramma and Microgeophagus. Now that would be an incredible tank lol. Midas or red devil pair? Jag pair? You could do a Nice front tank or Mbuna. There are TONS of possiblilties. Polypterus tank? Catfish tank? Piranha tank depending on where you live. There are tons of possiblities but from my understanding you want to keep cichlids. If I were you I would branch out into different varieties of cichlids such as Pikes. Or go with a nice oddball tank.

Discus don't need RO water, they will do fine with tap, unless your water is terrible. Constant water parameters are best. As to the planted tank, the CO2 isn't the limiting factor, it is the depth of the tank. The light would not be intense enough for plants at that depth.

my bff wyldfya knows what he is talking about :D

I have never kept them, but at that height, how about some mono sebae? If not, a bunch of angels, with african butterflies dotting the top

Mono sebae are cool and you can keep some spotted puffers fig 8 puffers archers knight gobbies ect with them I keep a tank with all these and its really cool

I'd stock it with african cichlids or a small (length) community of cichlids. Something that isnt demanding.
Any pics of this tank?
