Hey i dont have anything in this subforum but i did see a 3.5 foot nurse shark at my lfs along with a 6-7 foot eel that was going for $900 and the eel was going for like $1200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That $1200 eel most likely is a Brazilian, Hawaiian, or Japanese Dragon Eel. Definatly one of my favourite eels available, but pretty aggressive. As for the Nurse Shark, thats unfortunate, that 3.5' shark you see today will get around 10' atleast and will require a system almost 99% of the hobbiest cant afford / offer / have space for. If you ever go back to that LFS tell them to do a little research on the Nurse shark and to stop selling them.

On a side note, Li you move fast dont you ;)

i have a very good lfs in my area

they had a 3 ft nurse in their 800 gallon tank (dimensions are around 10ft long 3 high 5 ft deep) they had ordered it for a cust, who i believe was putting a swimming pool in his garage for it ,who then backed out. and were stuck with it for a year,

after everything that happened with katrina, they donated it to the louisiana aquarium where she has been living the life of luxury :headbang2

They all only get 4-5'. more likely it was a green morey if it really was up near 7' which like the nurse you should go back and tell them to do some research about.

i used to but now they're closing :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
now the only respectable on is like 30mins away. used to be 5 :(

they are having a liquidation sale though, i should get over there tommarrow.

And I think you hit on the main reasons why the Nurse shark really aren't recommended for private home aquaria.

They get huge - at least 8'-10'+, 200-300+ lbs in weight.

They really need only to be kept in Public Aquariums. If kept in privately owned, they need to be kept in very large shark lagoon(large swimming pools of at least 25,000 gallons). And IMPO, these sharks should not be sold thru LFS. That's only asking for major problems - both for the shark & those caring for it.

Chrisdef15 - Ahh my bad, the $1200 price tag messed me up. I agree Green Morays should not be sold either, my LFS as one in a 800 gallon tank, its not for sale, and even in the 800 gallon it kind of looks a little too big and its only about 5.5' possible 6'.

Its quite possible your right anyway as a 4' eel looks very big so he may of misjudged the size and it really is sometime of dragon moray especially for that much $$. Or he was right in which case i guess a 7' green eel would still be worth abit of cash. Thats a monster of an moray and i wouldnt like too of tried to catch it. Scary.
