Hey everyone,

Just really excited about how well it went feeding red wigglers to my fire eels for the first time. I usually just thaw one cube of bloodworms in a little water in a glass and dump it in the tank. The 6" fire eels go crazy as soon as they see me walk in the room. Lol

So, tonight I was at Petsmart and they had red wigglers, so I picked some up. I cut two smaller ones in half and just put them in the small glass of water with the bloodworms. When I dumped the glass in the tank my eels went crazy and when they came to the red wigglers they snatched them up and looked like they loved it. I know this is probably a lame thread, lol, but I was excited that it went so well!

Thanks all!

The best thing I can find at my petsmart is a 120 pack of blood worm cubes for $13. I've never seen red wigglers there.

I had to ask and they had them in a back room.

I'm just really hoping my wife doesn't find them back of the refrigerator drawer I put them in. She is already not a fan of the sealed frozen bloodworm cubes in the freezer. Lol

I'm going to try to buy a mini freezer for my tank. Considering my bgk will get to 20", I'm going to buy a tire track eel at 12" and they get to two feet, and I may get a poly. When they are all full grown that is at least 3-4 cubes a day. I may just feed Silversides.

Be sure she doesn't know they are midge larvae. They look similar to Mosquitoes.

Just an FYI, the tire track eel can get up to 37-40". It is possible that it will only get to around 24" and stop but many have them larger.

Also, at that size, they will probably need something more substantial than frozen bloodworms. Some people have talked about their fire eels and tire track eels (they are pretty close to the same eel) eating a dozen large night crawlers at once.

I'm glad I am having success in getting mine to eat the red wigglers because they are so healthy and have a lot of protein.

Everywhere I've read says no more than 24" in normal conditions. Even the guy at my lfs said he only thought they got to 18". If I do buy one it would stop because my tank is 24" wide. It is long enough for the eel at 84".
