Are you shooting manual though???
your exposure is to bright on the eagle
the pelican is amazing though
and pretty sure thats not a spoonbill...they have to have a spoon shapded bill after all lol
and bald heads...red eyes... a variety of things...
This is a roseate spoon bill

ah then I don't know what the bird was. I just assumed it was a spoonbill (it was flattened at the end of the beak though). Yes, I am shooting manual. As for the eagle I took 4 or 5 pictures all with different settings to compare them since he was posing so nicely. I chose to keep this one over the "properly" exposed shot as an artistic choice because it brought the background to where I wanted it and made the eagle pop more. I am sure with a bit of photoshop tweaking I can help the burnt out area. Does it bother you? I might play with it some later. Thanks for the C&C by the way :-).

Anyways, You have some great shots too (all technically perfect) but they look a little under saturated to me (like the scarlet macaw and the flamingo for example). Did you shoot in Raw format? That is what it looks like it might be. when shooting in raw you have to adjust them then convert them to give more accurate colors and lighting. Also keep an eye on composition- The lorikeet is blending into the green behind it and the anole and heron shots are almost indistinguishable if you had not said what they were).

I can't wait to play with our cameras some at the springs. It will be fun to compare and critique our shots.

the flamingos at my zoo are just pale unfortunately, we have one really dark pink one but the rest are pretty light. the scarlet macaw was on bad white balance... had it set to full sun and he was in a pretty dark shaded area...thats the only thing i can think happened with that one.... exposure should have been perfect for all of them so the white balance threw me off
lori definitely wasn't my best but figured hey...first time with this camera....doing pretty good i think!
kept waiting for that heron to bring it's head up but it wasn't happening lol we need to hit up gator land around march or april ;) nesting and baby birds EVERYWHERE!

and yes your inproper exposure bothers me lol but I try to get my pictures looking as crisp and clean as possible as if you are seeing it right before your own eyes... so don't really do artistic stuff like that for the most part... well not with nature photography anyways, nature is artistic enough on it's own :)
