Is it me, or watching a snake eat first be a bad thing for the sake of the move after the purchase stressing it and making it regurgitate?
Hmmm...That is a good point. Most of the time when I get snakes I dont see them eat but then I know the owner of the store I buy my snakes at so I trust him. You can try asking someone who works there and then check the snake over to make sure it is a good weight. But this is still not a fool proof method. So I would probably agree and ask if you can work something out with the store.

In that case, I'll probably just make sure that the store has a good exchange policy if anything were to happen with the snake being ill. The LFS's that have snakes I'm looking at are very trusted for the fish I purchase, so I'm fairly confident in the quality of reptile that they carry.

True in a store you see the snake first hand which is great but a breeder usually blows away pet store snakes when it comes to colors.

A show is like a huge box of crayon colors when it comes to corns and CHEAPER than pet store .

The type of colors you like are great because they hold even as old adults they dont fade out like some other colors.

I think this weekend calls for a trip to scope out what I can get around town...If not, definitely hitting up a show next time they're around.

when I got my first ball python I had them feed it at the store, and they fed it a small adult mouse, and he was fin with the 10min ride home.

Any longer than that though... I dunno.

It'd be a 15-25 minute ride from home wherever I'd be buying the snake from...but I think I trust those 2 stores for the most part.

Well, best of luck with whatever you choose. I like evilxyardxgnome's advice since your drive time is so long

I had two corn snakes. make sure you understand a captive snake is going to live longer than the average snake in the wild. also understand that the snake is going to get 6 ft long if your feeding it right. peroid. i had to sell mine. it was to much work cleaning and handling two 6 ft monsters... and to think i wanted a boa at first... mistake.

Was the age they were living to misleading or grossly proportional to information that's out there?

Also out of curiosity, what does their growth rate look like?
