First Stingray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Put it in the 150 in a week or so once it's settled in for the best chance. You'll have another upgrade coming in another year or two. You'll need lots of water changes in the 55. Do you test your water? Do you have a testing kit?

I have 3 retic pups in a 75 gallon tank for grow out right now myself. Two females and one male. Mine were captive breed all three of them. They range from 3 inch in diameter to 6 inch in diameter. I filter with 2 aquaclear 110's with sponge and bio only, NO charcoal and also use 2 50 gall sponge filters. I also use fluval heaters with the plastic protection around them. Ray's get burned VERY easy. If that happens then you have a whole other realm of problems to deal with.

My only tank mates are 4 gold tetra's and 1 black ghost knife.

I do 20% water change every other day and am able to maintain 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrites, and 20ppm nitrates.

This summer they will be going in to an 8' x 3' x 24" tank. I am going to keep the 75 going because the ultimate goal is for them to have pups.

P.S. The golden tetra's will eventually be dinner. They are only in there to clean up food that might be floating around.005.JPG009.JPG

Yeah I separated the stingray, he looks like he got scrapped up bc the sharks were too pushy with him... Which kinda pissed me off that he got a little tear in his body. It's nothing big barely can see it.

I got them at my lfs. They had a breeding pair. I got to see mom when she was pregnant. Kinda cool to see them moving around inside mom just before they were born. I wish I could have seen them be born, but I don't actually work at that store yet. Lol. She had two litters of pups about 6 months apart while they were at the pet store and then he sold the breeding pair.

The other thing you need to do is read up on acclimating your new stingray when you add him to a tank. Make sure you use the drip method and take your time (a couple of hours) acclimating him to any tank you will put him in...GOOD Luck!

Lol ppl need to calm down sometimes. I had 6 motoro pups grow out in a 55 gal for several months before transferring to a larger tank. I had 4 leo pups in a 55 as well for the longest time before getting an upgrade. If the ray is eating well and keeping the weight on then the TS has nothing to worry about. Just ensure water is kept in tip top shape via lots of water change and you're good to go.

BTW...nice ray.
