First Sump Start Up Issues? Herbie Overflow Help needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The problem was/is getting the water level right. With only a 1" difference any adjustment was soon going up or below the desired water level.

I think I may now have got it right. The water level is now set as the e-drain with prob something like 1% going down this. I've been trying to get it so the water level sat below the e-drain but I think this is nigh on impossible.

Nosie isn't an issue, in fact it's dead quiet. Just need to swap the spray bar for a Fluval outlet and it'll be dead quiet

Thats how most people wind up running the herbie, with a steady trickle going down the emergency drain. So you just use the emergency drain height to essentially set the water height.

He can't lower the main drain because if he does when the pump is turned off it will drain to much water into his sump.out atleast thats what I gathered. Make the emergency drain a durso style and it should be quiet.

okay thanks, I'll pick up a coupler!

here's a pic of the tank:

My old set up had crushed coral which I have swapped out for play sand which I think looks awesome.

I currently have a Parrot Fish, Large pleco and several Mallawi's but I want to get rid of them all.

I'm not sure what to replace them with?? I want something cool/funky/unusual

The tank is filtered by a 20g sump (filter socks and biomedia) and has ~8x turnover.

What suggestions do you all have? I'd be willing to lose the rock aswell and maybe swap for pebbles taken from my local beach or maybe driftwood? So many options!!

As for stocking, what type of unusual creatures could I go for? Blue crabs? Kuhli Loaches? Maybe a puffer setup?

Give me some suggestions ;-)
