First SW setup: Update.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I saw the Flame Angels, they kisck *** but are much more expensive. I want to start with low budget fish, in case I screw something up. Also, I bid on a 20" 90W light, I want the coralline algae. Will this be sufficient for my 20 gal tall?

Nice basic setup. Any advice on a good anenome?

You don't need super bright light to grow coralline algae. Monitor calcium and alkalinity levels. Again, avoid any anemone for now until your tank gets going and you have more experience under your belt.
A 20 gal tall tank is really too small for dwarf angels. A small Cherub angel may be ok for awhile.

hey ewurm, nice set up...yah i would aviod any anenome for awhile untill ur tank is much or established, i have had my 90 set up for a year and am just getting a seabe for my clown.

if u wanting an nice small fish for cheap, give me a pm, i can get in alot of cool fish for u if ur interested.

Anenome is way off, just a thought for the future. For right now my crappy Damsels are just fine. I want to make sure the tank is good before I go with any more complicated fish.

I put some shells in the tank, some I collected in Florida about 15 years ago. It made me realize, the crabs I put in my tank were not born with shells, LOL. Within an hour, one of the crabs was crawling around, living in my deco. It's the most obvious things that I miss.

Here's a good setup.

Umh man no it isn't . It has a crushed coral substrate which causes nitrate problems down the road. It doesn't have nearly enough live rock unless that's just a little of it . There are 3 clowns that may or may not decide to let each other live. Some times in larger set ups you can get a trio and the way you are doing it with 3 baby clowns will work. You'll have to keep a close eye on them when they get about an inch and a half long.

I now have a nitrate reading, but very small. Less than 5ppm. Ammonia, nitrite still 0. I think the tank is cycling nicely.
