So, I am turning 18 in January and I am looking into my first tat(Mother is paying ;)). I am thinking a Japense style koi with japanese style waves and cherry blossoms around it. What do you guys think, cool or not? It is going on my forearm and will be from about my curve in the elbow to my wrist. Do any of you hav any cool fish tats, I would love to see.

Sounds cool....

But really, tattoos should have meaning, and if you're basing your decision on the input of a few people on an internet forum, it obviously doesn't have much meaning. Just my 2 cents.

Wait till you are in your 30s and getting it removed with a lazer. It hurts 30X worse than getting it and costs a fortune.....

you should do the ying nd yang circle on your back.
but do it with 2 koi instead. get it?
that what im gettin with my last name in the middle :]

get what you like the look of, meaning to it or not. its your body its gonna be on for life so get what you like whether it has a meaning to you or you think its cool. it doesnt really matter what everyone else thinks because its not going on their body.

i suggest getting a small tattoo first just in case you dont like it. that way you arent left with half a tattoo you wont get finished because you hate getting it done. i know someone who went big for his first time and wont get it finished. he now has a silly half tattoo that looks crap and its for life because he cant afford laser removal.

i wanted a tatt from 15 but i was 21 before i got it done because it was a big decision, to me anyway, to mark my body for life.

here is mine not very good pics (cellphone),ian yes it has meaning to mean(before anybody asks)lived in japan for several years, meet my gf there while training

and if you need some designs of koi hit me up,as a tattoo artist,i have plenty(btw my training was in tattooing most people hear training in japan and think martial arts.

btw i have been tattoing for 8 years now and rarely tattoo a tattoo with meaning most people get what looks cool, they dont really get tats that mean anything until someone passes away or they think they are in love(most of the time that doent work either)so they end up with a name on them that they have to get cover up with another tat they think is cool,if you are going to get a tattoo make sure you can live with it forever, and make sure you find the best artist you can find(cheap is not always good)

if you're asking how we like the idea and it means something to you and you're going to get that design no matter what, then i think its pretty cool.

if youre getting it because you think its cool or you want us to suggest what design you should have painfully embedded in your arm, then i really dont think you should get a tattoo, because it wont have meaning to you.

Well, for all those nah-sayer who think I am an adolecent and have no meaning for the tattoo, I do. I have been slowly trying to convert to buddhism over the last three years and eventually I plan to live in a Monestary in Japan hopefully. I have been mesmerized by Japanese style art and culture and that's why I settled on the koi with waves and blossoms. Koi have been for centures viewed as signs on peace and grace, just seeing a koi pond and watching them gide through the water is enough to realize this. The cherry blossoms also symbolize a sense on beauty and I just love the look of them. I actually decided on this tattoo when I was 15, first thinking it would just look cool, but then after getting engrossed in the cultural heratige of Japan I strating to bring meaning to it. So when it comes down to it, I do think it will look cool, but there is also meaning. When it comesto the time when I can get one, I will put some even more serious thought into it than I already am as this will be permanent. Hope this gives you guys a little more insight into my thoughts of this and a little tid bit of my life.
