Just got my first Dat. Bought him for $50, money well spent IMO. Very active and 90% stable. Currently living with an ornate bichir, sailfin pleco and a P. Bass.

The dat and P. Bass get along great. They seem to be constantly showing off for each other. If one swims to an area the other is quick to follow and "out do" what the other does. Every so often the dat gets spooked and hides but comes out shortly afterwards.

He isn't as aggressive as the P. Bass at feeding time. Usually sits back and picks off what the P. Bass doesn't get to.

From the ID chart he looks to be an IT. Can anyone confirm this.

Thanks for the help.

Be aware that Pbass grow extremely fast while Dats grow fairly slow. And Pbass don't discriminate any moving fish that can fit in it's mouth.

I suppose $50 is a bit steep but I've been looking for over a month for one not too big and not too small. It seems like AT's are more common from my limited searching. What really sold me was the fishes stability. At the LFS it was housed in a 30 gallon with 15 other large aggressive cichlids, the Dat was up front and active.

As for the p bass only time will tell if he decides to have a $50 lunch at my expensive. I was hoping if they grow together that the p bass wouldn't think of the dat as prey. Let's hope the Dat feels the
pressure and keeps it's so far huge appetite.
