For real you can teach them to eat from your hands?!?! I thought I would have to get an MBU for behavior like that. How do you teach them that that?

)

Food is the keyword here. Most fish learn when its time for feeding and if they feel secure they will take it directly from your hands.

I am so going to try this this. I'll let you know if I actually get it trained. For now my kids won't even clean thier rooms so don't hold your breath on getting results but I'll try for sure and let you know what happens. :D

Haha..good luck!

yeah, as others said - food. They're curious, if shy, fish. Once they get use to you feeding them, sticking your arm in the tank more and more as you drop in food will get them use to your hands being in the water.
Another way is to get a turkey baster. Thaw blood worms/whatever else in a dish, squeeze them into the baster, and deliver them to the knife. Soon he'll associate it with food (at least mine did) and start approaching it during feeding time. Wouldn't be very difficult for it to learn to feed from your fingers after that. Little freeze dried shrimps and chopped earthworms would do wonders.

Mine usually rests in a corner under a sword plant but comes out for food, especially earthworms.

I've found after raising several BGKs that they are far less afraid of my hands in the tank than my Cichlids are... I suspect this is because they cannot see my hands and therefore are less likely to realize they are anything other than another fish...

OK, here is a totally rookie question..... Does your BGK look like it's mouth never closes all the way? Mine has jaws that look like they are always a little "open". Have you noticed this? I know mine is totally healthy but I can't help an notice the mouth thing. Wierd.

Yes - Along the side of the jaw there should only be a thin black line, but the very tip of the mouth where, for a lack of a more accurate description, the front teeth would be it should look like there's a gap as if it's hanging it's mouth open.

That's what I thought but wanted to others with experience. THANKS!
