First time owner any advice

Hey guys
As the title says i just got my first P.bass 5 mono's to exact. They're a 1-2inch. My question is i have them growing out in my 180g community tank. Most other fish with them are around 3-4inch. I do have a spare tank but it only 1ft cubed(all other tanks are stocked with aussie natives:) ). The filter i have for it thought is a fulval 405.
I feel that in the big tank their missing out on food. Would it be better to grown them a little larger in the smaller tank befor putting them in the 180g or would the small tank be too crule putting them in.

P.s these little babbies have me hooked on cichla's now.
 
If at all possible I would get a bigger grow out tank , doesn't have to be huge but 55-75 gallon with good filtration and aeration and a power head they like water movement but don't over do it ,
keep the temps in the 82-84 degrees F.
provide places to hide , driftwood, fake plants, or live plants
keep up on the water changes, and thats really all I can think of to help ya out, well that and
read the posts on here and you will learn ALOT!

what are you little guys eating now ? pellet or live or dead ( Fish fillet, shrimp, freese dried blood worms ext. )

I am a first time Cichla keeper myself but I have done a TON of reading about keeping Cichla , but there are quite a few guys on here that has much more personal experience then I do that will give some advise , if you have any questions just ask .
 
#1 most important is to get them to take pellets and get them past any initial ick they may have picked up during transfer. After that just keep plenty of food around they like to eat :)

The 6x2x2 is only a communtiy/ growout tank it's self. I just sold a 55g bout 2 weeks ago. I have a 80g with gold fish and crayfish in there. I gcan get rid of all them but the down fall is the tank has no lids.
As for food wise they all have been drilling bloodworms. One oe two are takeing small NLS pelletstrying to get them on hikari gold mini floating pellets but no luck so far.
My thoughts now look like i'll keep them in the foot cube for a month while getting lids and sump setup propley on the 80g. Befor going in the 180g again.
Another quick question will the 5 live happy in the 10x5x4ft? Or will i need bigger.

Thats good that some are taking some pellets most of the time the others will see those Peacock bass eating the pellets and know that they are food .
your plans for the puting them in the smaller tank and getting your 80 going sounds good!
and 5 would be able to live in a 10x5x4 Easy for life actuallly if your filtration was up to it you could add a few more in there , but I would get idifferent species of PBass , orino's, Occels, Kel's, Azul's ext. that way you have more color in the tank ( I am actually going to get 3 -4 of orino's , mono's Occels , thinking of droping it down to 2 of each and adding 2 azuls to the mix also, along with 2 arowannas, 2 motoro stingrays .)

These fish are so addictive Honestley I have kept alot of Cichlids in my 20 years in the hobby and I have to say I have not enjoyed any species I have kept more then I have my little orino's ( and I have only had them couple weeks!) But honestley I can't think of any other large growing fish that has the bright colors, patterns, that CAN be housed with other fish and actually prefers it .
 
The filtration on the 10ft is 2x 6x2x2 sumps with 2x fx5's, and 2000L/ph tankmaid powerhead. In the ten years owning fish this is happiest i've been with my purchase (even though they set me back $260aud for the 5) besidethe melanistic jardini i picked up last year.
 
Quick recap after lunch aus time. The five of them are in the smaller tank now for a month or so. I used a spare small canisster off the 180g they were in and water from the 180g to set up the small one. Left it running over with two feeder fish in there. Over a hour and half this morning i transfered the bass in to the small tank. So far they're loving it. All up there's 2 feeder fish same size as the bass, the five bass and a small convict that has no balls what so ever.
For lunch though i've managed to get four outof the five feeding on pellets :) currently their being fed NLS cichlid formula 1mm sinking pellets.
I really want to try get them onto hikari floating sticks and pellets but i think their still a bit too small.
 
Sounds like everything is going Great! Congrats ! I was going to wait to do an update on my little orino's on the 25th but I think I am going to try and get some pics recent pics up today or tommotow
