First time to NYC...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had nothing but positive interactions when I was in Manhattan. People were more curt than I'm used to (we draw things out a bit in the South), but still most folks were polite and friendly. I was only approached by one panhandler the whole week, which was a bit of a surprise to me.

thanks all! My teacher lived there for 8 years and said he was only mugged 3 times....lol I'll be sure to stay in a group and not go down dark alleys!

I'll be sure to make a list of the things you have recommmended and try to see as much as possible in 4 days!

Your teacher must not be very streetwise or look intimidating. I've lived there my entire life, aside from college and now law school. Never a victim of crime. I have seen one armed robbery though. One thing about riding subways- don't sit in the seat closest to the door if you're going to be holding a package, camera, or jewelry that could be grabbed by sticking a hand into the train and running down the platform. I've never seen this happen, but I was always cautioned against it growing up. My method is to put the big scary guy [me] in that seat and have the girls sit farther from the door.

You have to go to the Halal spot on 53rd and 6th, right across the street from the Hilton. Try something different...You'll love it and in the case you don't I'll pay for your plate.

PS if the line is half way down the block it's worth the wait.
