I got some convicts so I could try to whole baby experience. They have laid eggs and what not. It has been 3 days and some eggs are turning white and I read these are the bad ones. But my real question is...Is it normal for the male to not allow the female even close to the eggs? She is trying with everything she has to get to them but he is not allowing her to. She has even tried to go through the small hole on the back of the pot...Also when do I begin feeding them?

ys in some cases the male wont let the female near the eggs if hes really beating on her seperate them and i always feed my convict fry about 2 weeks after they hatch but i might be doing it wrong

Is the Male convict always bigger then the female and will the female always have the orange spots on there bellies? Just Asking cause I bought a pair today but dont know if I got a male its bigger then the female but I dont see no bump on its head and its back fins are short but i heard there suppose to be longer then the females? plz need some tips, thank you for your time reading this long post :)

There are some other threads on this website about sexing convicts. Females usually have an orange belly while males do not. I've also found that with my convicts, the females fins are more yellow and the males fins are more red.

ive been breeding cons for a while now...... the female if of good quality will be noticably more colerful deep pink and orange throughout her underside.... the male in a good scenario will drop interest after the aggs hatch and will circle the nest the female will guard and fan food.... if the male is digging and fanning the substarte i wouldnt worry but the fry will need some help off the bat to eat.... after a week or so they will start swimming around grazing algea.... make sure them temp is around 80 and do a few water changes a week.... dont seperate the fry for about a month..... i usualy wait 3 weeks... if u try to leave them in for the growout the parents will eat them or kill them when they go to start again
