First Tropical Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One short update. With the recent rain we've finally been getting, the dirt has been a little softer. So i got in there and carved it out a little more.
Hoping to get the liner in soon.

The catfish have both grown half an inch in the past week, they can almost eat an entire cube of frozen bloodworms by themselves. At this rate theyll be ready to move to the 220 in no time.

Update on the future pond fish in the 220g. The arowana is now about 16-18", oscar is about 11-12", one pacu is 17" and the other is 15", the larger pleco is 14" and the small is about 9", the largemouth bass is 11", and the tiger shovelnose is 12".
Theyve been very aggressive in the past month, i believe because of the weather change; but they have all calmed down in the past week and are now keeping to themselves. The Tiger Oscar (Bruce) has taken the position of dominate fish in the tank, no one messes with him.

Also, all my water problems on the 220 are now solved. I added a UV sterilizer built for a pond (good up to 2000g; OVERKILL) with a 400gph pump on it, and built a diy sand filter/bog filter.
Odd solution, but its working so far

Big update.
Today we got the carpet into the hole (I'll have pics tomorrow), and its ready for the liner now.
Bad news: we left the liner out in the sun for months with no water, and when I tried to move it, it fell apart into pieces....
So today I went to houston and got another liner (basic blue pool liner (24x24x4.5) for $200) and I'll be installing it tomorrow morning and filling it up.

Also, RTC's are growing... Who would have guessed that would happen? :P

Added fish today to test everything. 36 feeders. So far all is well, they are swimming in two large schools along the bottom of the pond.

All of them in a bucket adjusting to the outside water temperature, which was about 55f

Releasing them into the shallowest part of the pond (this area is about 6'x6'x1')
