Hello
I plan to build a Wet/dry for my 55g this weekend and this will be my first so I have some questions.
What is the minimum flow rate I can go with?
What is the best cheep filter media? I was thinking of cut up drinking straws and maybe some crushed lava rock to help with the acidity since my water is very base.

a good pre filter and nylon pot scrubbies best cheapest media you can get. for a 55 gallon i would do a mag 5 500gph that would be a good turn over rate.

10x turnover rate is alot for a 55g but good.. my wet/dry on my 120gallon is about 580

At least 200 gph actual flow, depends on what is in the tank how much more.
And the pot scrubbers work great.

3x turnover works well for me.
I agree with drinking straws and pot scrubbers.

my 180 is 1800

can you use stainless steal pot scrubbers cause thats all the places by me sell

1800 at the pump, or 1800 after you take head pressure into consideration.

The mag-5 will give you about 250~300 at 4 feet, remember you loose gph as you lift water....

that's about 5x turnover, not 10
