I have a 55 with 3 festae 1-2" in size a 2 inch jd a dwarf sucker mouth cat and a pair of oscars . I've noticed my fish have been acting alil wierd lately . The festaes have been swimmin on tjeir side them normal and my jds was shackin its body real hard almost as if it was tryin to impress a mate . I dont know how to treat em or if even sick . Beginning ti think they might have parasites cause they sometimes scratch their body on the edge of the slate rocks buried in the sand

Ph is at 7.2ppm ammonia is at .5 ppm and I added some detoxicifier earlier when I changed 15 gallons . I set up the tank 2 weeks ago n so today is the first water change ive done cause I wanted to let the benifical bactria build up . I used 75% of water from my 40 breeder when I did the switich.

prolly filtration not cycled yet and they are responding to ammonia, keep up the water change, like every day untill the tank is cycled. get a test kit so you know.

I have an ac 70 and ac 50 for filtertion and a 700 water circulation pump . I also changed the media in the 70 about 2 weeks ago . Ive never had a problem with water not filtering cause with that set up it cycles the tank completely atleast 5x an hour

Ammonia isnt high enough to cause any damage . On both test kits I have says its in the safe side and that was before I added the detoxicifier by now its probably gone.

Only 5x filtration, most people on here go for 8-10x filtration per hour. That may be your issue, not cycled and not enough filtration

i duno, you said you set up your tank 2 weeks ago. that usually isnt enough time for your filter to "cycle" as in "build up a colony of nitrification bacteria that converts ammonia and nitrite to the more harmless nitrates" i didnt mean cycle as in turnover (rate of water moving through your aquarium) anyways, good luck.

Oh, and don't go by the "safe zone" on any ammonia chart, you may have a bad brand because any detectable ammonia can affect fish. It's less likely but .5 can still affect the fish
