I had to separate my Balzani today after finding it on one side of the tank
with the fins torn off presumably with the temensis. This gave me the inspiration
to ask this to fellow MFKers; When is it time to intervene when it comes to fish aggression ?

awww, that sucks man. That balzani looked awesome. I'd hate to see him with torn fins. :(

Unfortunately, thats what happened. Separated it to avoid taking more damage.

i try to let my fish fight it out and see if things can be resolved which in most cases its not a problem.......i also have taken both fish that are fighting out of the tank put them both in seperate buckets for about 10 mins and then reintroduce them back in to the tank together.....i just go by the looks of the fish for the most part if they are missing scales or have lost some fins i usually seperate heal them up and then put them back in

Yeah , if a fish has a place to retreat, then i leave them be and observe further.
But the most telling sign for me is that if a fish just sticks to a corner , or there is non stop zooming back and forth in the tank.

A split fin here and there is fine, but if there are blood on the fins, deep breathing or if the fish is not behaving normally, then its time to separate.

When the torn fins are getting to bad for your liking.
But I normally take the mean one out for 24 hours then put himback.
I find it seems to teach it a lesson ( never for very long tho)

When you see the fish constanstly attacking it's side... I intervened that one with the firemouths... and had given the firemouth away.. I had bought another a week later, all they did was flare... and there wasn't a need to seperate them.
