I picked up a 16" silver aro on Saturday. It looked a little beat up because it was in a 50gal tank. Last night I noticed its barbels looked a little fuzzy looking, and some sections of scales were discolored or missing. Moved him to a quarantine tank, and he was dead this morning. Now my black is showing similar scale discoloration, and one of my widebars has some weird spots on him. What should I do. Here are some pics of the silver. I will try to get pics of the others.

50% water change....maybe some melafix, boost the temp a notch...82 or so and add some aquarium salt. ;)

Yeah just use the basic aquarium curing process raise the temp. a little bit do a large water change and put some fish salt in it and then see how it goes for about a week or so then if the tank is showing no more signs of fungus or disease do another water change and try to get your pH levels back to nomal. :)

can you show us pix of the other fish?

and water params?

Did a 50% WC and added oceanic natural sea salt. I haven't bumped the temp up yet until I am more sure what it is because some bac/fungus infections thrive under high temps. I added 4 cups of salt to a 265gal tank/100gal sump.

Are they still eating? I cant see the pics on my phone, but if it is a fungus i beleive pimafix is the appropriate remedy, not melafix.

i dont think a fungal infection wouldve shown signs one day and killed over night...

thats exactly what i was thinking with the temp.

without knowing what it is i still think a broad spectrum antibiotic is the way to go. it might seem extreme but i wouldnt want to risk losing any of the fish in the tank.
how much of the water can you remove from the tank before the sump stops running? its a grip of $$$ to treat 400 gallons with meds, especially antibiotics
