why do my fish look like they're gasping for air?? i did a water change last night and i'm doing another one right now?

The oxygen levels might be low, try adding an air stone.
Also: What kind of fish? What temp, what pH, and just be sure the filter is working perfectly.

i have a variety of fish 3 parrots, 1 severum, 1 pearsi, 1 melenarus, and about a handful of other little misc fish, in a 125 tank. i had a rena xp2 filter and a 350 penguin. i just took the penguin off and added a 350 magnum canister tonight i keep the water at 82 and for the ph idk i guess maybe i need to take a sample to the lfs tomorrow and have them test it
You need to purchase your own test kit it is one of the most important things in this hobby. Most of us use the API master liquid test kit. Make sure it is the liquid and not the strips. When you changed filters what did you do with the filter media from the old filter?
it's still in the penguin filter wich is still hanging on the back of the tank when i added the magnum i'm just using the filter cartride only right now, i have my rena loaded with media
