I am a alantic fish collector and free style diver for 6 years. My fish are displayed in home aquarum's, zoological displays, breading program's and aquarum's around the usa. Feel free to ask me any question's you may have about collecting fish or anything you wish to know about doing this.

yes there are a lot of leagle fish you can collect in FL you just need a permet to collect them.

I am interested in collecting Cephalopods and mantis shrimp here on the west coast, any tips?

Fish collecting is a great hobby! I collect my own natives.

so where do you get a permit? then do they tell you what you can take and what you cannot?

In FL they are very strict when it come's to the law's for fish collecting. You can get your permit from the fish and game. I know in FL it's illegal to collect live rock from the reef's. They will inforum you what you can and can't collect.

In the collection of Cephalopods ive been told that they use a very small hook like a fw trout hook and bait it with some spering or outher meaty native small-med fish. And to get mantis shrimp your best bet is to dive in a rocky area and search for hole's around rock structure's. Be carefull in collecting them because some can inflict a nasty cut. Anouther recomdation is to get or make a suction gun to suck them out of the hole or crevis of the rock's.
