Here is a good story I think all you MFKers will like.

I just bought a Jade Goby over the weekend and put him in my 150. That night (Saturday) he was out swimming around, eating the last few feeder fish that were in there...he looked fantastic.

Well, the next day my buddy came over and he was looking for the goby to see how he was doing. We looked everywhere...under driftwood, in logs, behind rocks...nothing. I told him how he hid pretty well at first, so he may be out later.

I decide to look for him again a little later, and still nothing. Then I think the worst could have happened. Maybe he jumped out the back of the tank. I peek around the back and sure enough...there is the goby in the middle of the tank on the floor.

He was rock solid when I picked him up. I had a bucket of fresh water that I let stand for my saltwater tank and I used that to clean him off. I moved him back and forth in the water to force movement on his gills. I put some Stress Coat in the bucket and tried to apply a little on the fish to re-establish a slime coat.

After a couple of minutes of repeating this proceedure...HE KICKED!!! :WHOA: I almost pi$$ed myself when he did. I kept doing it over and over and he started kicking more and more so I quickly moved him back into the 150 near the filter intake so there would be good water movement and airation.

This morning when I was leaving for work, the goby was out swimming around, and perching on his log like nothing ever happened. I am so glad he made it through this ordeal because he is a stunning Jade Goby.

My lesson learned...SEAL YOUR TANKS SHUT!!!

I didn't think they could either...but I figured it was worth a shot. I hope he appreciates what I did for him. :grinno:

I've also read of people addin some hydrogen peroxide to the reviving tank to help out a bit, like 2 capfulld to a 90galon for a puffer. i herd of a lot of "rock hard, dry" fish serviving this, even some that breath air a bit like lung fish that hopped out to try to get to another tank but didnt quite make it, my lesson came when i was doing something on my cichlid tank and i had one jump, i dropped my gravel vaccume and luckly cought it, man was he lucky(i vented him while i was at it, and he was in my hand)

why thankyou, thats too kind.. lol just kidding, it shows how resiliant fish realy are, like people that have drown being brought bak after being under for 10min+ sometimes the will to live is extreemly strong, and cant be broken by a meir scave with death.

Update on the goby:

He took a couple of shiners that were left over from my Jardini. He still looks like crap, but atleast he is alive...and now eating!! I'll try to get some pics tonight or tomorrow.

Nice save. I once had a common pleco jump out of the tank and stay on the floor for about ten to twelve hours. He was in horrible shape, but eventually made a complete recovery.

Well, I have bad news...I lost the goby last night.

I was treating with salt and increased temperature, but he was too far gone. I noticed that his eyes were sunken in and he lost all the scales on his body...he looked like the living dead.

I'm going to look for another one but boy did I learn a lesson on this one!!!:irked:

KEEP THOSE TANKS SEALED!!
