That temp is not high I keep my tank at 82 year round with no promblems. What other fish are in the tank? how many gallons? How often you do water changes?
I would seriously recommend not doing any of these things. 85 is not hot enough to cause problems unless there is a lack of oxygen in the tank (higher temps in your aquarium can lower oxygen levels). I'd recommend a big water change and adding some aeration if you don't already have it. I'm really not a melafix fan, and definitely not a fan of adjusting your ph with chemicals.
All your fish really need is well-filtered water (and cycled too), regular water changes, and a high quality diet to thrive.
So what are your ammonia and nitrate levels at?
The temperature in your tank is fine and is certainly not what is causing your tetra to be dieing. Melafix never hurts anything, so I would recommend adding that. Also, tetras with nipped fins likely means bullying is a problem, so try to swap out fish to keep bullying from being an issue. Also, fin rot is a possibility if you think nipping is not the case with the damaged fins. If so, melafix would also help with the fin rot. The upper 70s are a good range for tropical fish but temperatures in the 80's are usually also fine.
