recently i have lost a baby red tiger motaguense and a couple small ntt dats in the same manner...they start to breath hard, get really reclusive and stop eating. Then they died with their mouths open. And now my 4inch sveni pike is acting in the same manner, his mouth is open and his lips almost look inflamed. could this be gill flukes? all the other fish are perfectly healthy showing no signs of sickness and eating very well...any ideas?? water params are 7.2 ph ammonia-0

are they pooping clear

please list full parameters. also, do you have an airstone in the tank?

Yeah, that was my first thought.

I think I have read of this before but I cannot remember the name. It has to do with the fact the fish cannot move its mouth and the jaw stays open.
Best advice I can give you is do large water changes every other day.

i am doing water changes, i lost me 2nd red tiger this morning. i dont understand it, his mouth th open also. my pike is still alive but his mouth his like stuck open and i can see what looks to be a bubble in his mouth inflating and deflating when he breathes...what is this? water params are fines nitrite and nitrate are under control and all myother fish are fine...

i followed up on vaine's topic, before reading bluehairman's post and his link, and i also agree with bluehairman on that it may be columnaris, real nasty stuff, after losing over a hundred dollars in fish quickly i wished i would have been able to aquire kanamycin more quickly but had to wait 4 days for my local pet store to place an order, used tetracyclin in the meantime with minimal improvement, but still lost a few fish in a matter of a week, my last surviving gulper catfish was the brink of death, and after receiving my kanaplex, he showed signs of improvement quickly and was back to full health in a matter of two weeks, and he was in bad shape full body ulcerations, fully rotting fins the whole deal, all because usps overnight tuned into my gulper catfishes sitting in a box for 3 days in the middle of july before my receiving of them
