Fish dying one at a time. Stingray sick!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Something is really wrong, can't be something that's just slightly off as Oscars are tough as nails so if they are dying then you got problems. If you can get more bio from another tank and add it to the sump I would then stop the drip and do water changes. No offense to you but this is a good example how these kinds of things can happen to anyone and even the most decked out setups like drips and UVs and such. Then people with small tanks and primitive filtrations and husbandry can house rays for years with no problems. I believe luck plays a big role to even the most avid ray keepers. Hope things get better for you man!

For such a big setup... doesn't seem like a lot of BIO media... could it be possible that the waste isn't getting broken down fast enough?? Also if your dripping water daily, doesn't 20ppm nitrate seem like a lot??

We added an fluval Fx 6 to the tank for extra filtration and more water flow. I have had no issues with ammonia I have a monitor on the tank that test the water every 15 minutes or so for ammonia and haven't had an readable amount in at least over 6 months maybe longer and I periodically double check the digital readings with a API test kit for accuracy. The tank has been set up and cycled for a little over a year without issue until this. I'm sorry to say the stingray passed away this morning. We did a 80% water change tonight and have removed all the other fish from the tank and are going to turn them in to a local pet store, in a desperate attempt to prevent the two morto baby stingray from getting sick

Nope from what I see all the fecal matter looks normal but it my power head and sump pull it out rather quickly. The fish all seem normal maybe a little weaker but the one willstop eating the in about 24-48hr it will start swimming almost like it's drunk (almost like swim bladder disease but they are not floating actually they are more laying on the bottom some and seem to be able to get where they want to go)and startle really easy and go racing around the tank. And then in like 24 more hours they are dead.

No they eat frozen fish from the lake that my dad catches that we thaw as we need. We eat the same fish for dinner one or twice a month that our fish eat. The eat several verity of fish it just depends on what's in the freezer. We where never able to get the stingray to eat pelts so our fish got use to eat the same way he did

You eating the fish is different than your fish eating the frozen fish. Humans have adapted to eat things like McDonalds. You eating one or twice a month is a lot different than feeding your fish everyday that frozen fish. Why not try using something else? Try earthworms for a bit? And see if that's the problem.
