fish dying, white skin peeling off, please help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was also running around like a chicken w/ its head cut off and didn’t take any pics like I should have. I have them in the freezer for now so I may be able to take some tonight after work if that would help. It was the slime coat not skin like I earlier mentioned. Yet another slip up while trying to go too fast.

Do not worry.
We all have our chicken without heads moemnts :)

Pix of frozen will not help, at least with my small experience in diseases.

I have thought of this for a while and I originally thought a ph crash was with too high of a ph however I am now learning it is too low so it doesn’t seem like that is the problem. Could I get a similar response from too high of a ph and what could cause this? I just tested and the ph is reading at 8 in a tank w/ driftwood so it seems out of place. I could kick myself for not being more rational and taking some pictures since this has really been troubling me all day at work. As clarified earlier it was just the slime coat and not the skin so it is not as bad as originally thought. Looking online it looks like ph and stress are the most common symptoms so I am at a loss what else it can be. I am just worried that this could happen again and that I may harm future fish.

Some other info that I did not add earlier is I have been having problems feeding the bass the whole time. I would throw some food near them and sometimes they would take some immediately but others it would sit for a while and my cat would get to some of it overnight. Sometimes the food did spoil but I tried to get it out asap but occasionally there was some fuzzy tilapia in there for short periods of time.

I also went to bed at 3am and checked on them before I went to bed and there was no sign of any coat loss but at 9am there were 2 dead fish.
