ok thanks, i'll do normal feedings everyday for their whole entire lifetime

what fish are compatible with the tsn and hybrid cat?

Anything that won't fit in their mouth...There really isn't anything anyone can tell you other than that... if your planning to have one of these monster cats then you have to prepare yourself to lose some fish... Hope for the best but plan for the worst :D

Can I ask you why you wouldn't get a RTC but you would consider to get a Hybrid or a TSN?

both my TSNs(12"ish) hunt better than my 2 RTCs(10"+) and the RTCxTSN(5"ish) put together

first off; they are "tank busters" watch out for glass tanks

2nd off; they get waaay too big, waaay too quick.

3rd; i can't imagine feeding a adult 6foot redtail catfish, WHILE paying for the bills to maintain such a tank or pond to PROPERLY house the catfish. were talking about atleast 5,000gallons.
that's like a bag of hikari massivore a day. or maybe i need to go fishing and feed it live bait all the time. making it really aggresive and almost impossible to have tankmates.

4th; i love the redtail cats but i think it's stupid to keep them because most people keep them just to show off how big they're catfish is. they think it's cool to keep monster fish, when they can't properly house the fish.

do you want me to go on?

Well actually I have 1 RTC, 2 Hybrids and 3 TSN's ... your reasoning doesn't make sence as there is no such thing as a 6' aquarium housed RTC, the hybrids get just as big and a TSN will get longer than an RTC... they ALL eat like there is no tomorrow while young and will never eat a bag a day at full size.

Before moving any further with your purchase... Research some more on these Cats as they are ALL Tank Busters...and all require large tanks...your 5000 gallon home would be good for sure, but not needed as a considerably smaller tank would do just fine.

about RTCs being tank busters
yes you are quite right
bu the TSNs and the hybrids are much more skittish than the RTCs and there is a higher probability that they might bust your tank than the RTC
but if you plan to keep a single RTC and in a big enuff tank then your RTC is much more calm and very very interactive
though all other cats are interactive as well but will take more time than the RTCs
took me three months plus before i could even pet my TSN

agreed, my rtc was being hand fed from day one at 1.5". I still hand feed him at 17". I have a 37" hybrid. I have 2 20" tsn. I can tell you that you have to worry about the hybrid and tsn more than a rtc. The main concerns with rtc are they are more bulky at the same length and tax your filters more than the other fish. Build a huge pond you'll be fine. You'll get more interaction that way too. Reaching down into a pond is more natural than having to reach up over a tank. I'd like to see a picture of a confirmed 6' rtc. I've only heard stories, and no real proof. I think 5' is the largest yet.

Oh, and there's a few of us here now keeping B. filamentosum. Aka piraiba. I'd consider keeping any species of catfish that I can legally own lol. Of course the aquariums that I have planned and am currently constructing warrent just that though.

lol u talk funny...
1st, all these 3 catfish mentioned, tsn, rtc and hybrids are all TANK BUSTERS duhhhh?
2nd, Hybrids gets BIG if not bigger and if i remember it right ( i hop i do), hybrids grows Faster than their normal counterpart.
3rd, U can use ur brain to make bills cheaper.
and lastly U are Right. It is stupid for people like YOU to keep RTC coz u wont and cant properly house the fish.

Now back to the original bass' question...
why you wouldn't get a RTC but you would consider to get a Hybrid or a TSN?

Now now Cliff, you needed to mention that Piraiba are the record holders for size in Catfish ;)

Do a Search on youtube and you can see a 400 pound monster being released after being caught on a fishing line ;)
